May/June Collage Cut-Out Page Submissions
Many, many thanks to Nancy Hamann for submitting to the May/June Collage Cut-Out page. Nancy has submitted a collage for all 8 cut-out pages and her collages are always fun and alive. Even more fun for me is to see how different artists respond to each collage and the inspiration prompts. Nancy writes about her collages, “They're fun to do because they make me react to something outside of myself, and let me play with color and composition without being concerned about the outcome.” Exactly, Nancy! As artists, its important to set up opportunities to ‘react' to things ‘outside’ of ourselves as well as give ourselves permission to not be concerned with the outcome all of the time. Well done, Nancy!
I’ve had hundreds of downloads of the cut-out pages over the past year and a half and I’m thankful that you were all inspired! Despite all of the downloads, I’m sorry to say that only a handful of people responded with a collage. Sadly, I will be retiring the bi-monthly Collage Cut-Out Pages and will only offer them about once a year going forward.
Many thank-you’s to all for participating and offering inspiration to me and Art Bite Blog Readers!
May/June Collage Cut-Out Page and Inspiration….
Think of that time in the early morning when you first open your eyes to the light and the dewy perfume of the orange blossom tree swirls in through the open window. It’s still chilly in the morning as winter is slow to say goodbye, but the air warms up quickly as the sun continues to rise. There are two mourning doves who have taken up residence in the back yard and your kitty thinks she’s about to have a party with her new friends as she sits like a stone, staring. The doves’ singing seeps into your subconscious as you’re slow to wake and continues on as a melodious alarm clock. It’s the first sunny, spring weather week and all over the neighborhood buds are unfurling, their peach-toned hearts glowing like whispered secrets through blades of new grass. Coral and cream butterfly wings flutter toward the golden- peach light of the horizon. A sprig of mint, a gather of dried apricots, a handful of the sweetest blueberries brighten your belly. Layering textures of lace, linen, and ornamental pattern along with image, paint and marks, tell your story of springtime hope, of a bright, sunny season ahead.
About the Collage Cut-Out Pages
I was inspired to create cut-out pages by the Kolaj Institute, an organization that publishes a whole book of them to commemorate the start of KolajFest, their super fun collage conference in New Orleans. As a gift to my Newsletter subscribers, I’ve been creating cut-out pages with an inspiration challenge to get the ball rolling.
